There are only two real items involved in getting yourself a great set of washboard abs, exercise and of course diet. The real key is to know which exercise and what diet. Most of my past I would exercise hard and have little in the way of muscle on my abs to show for it.

There are certain exercises that will work the main muscle mass in your body to get you the great results you seek. To my relief doing a million and one sit ups I learned is not a necessity. I sure hated to do sit ups all day long. You do need to increase your cardio level though. I have always loved to bicycle so that is my main cardio enhancement exercise. When doing a cardio workout make sure to keep you heart rate in the aerobic area. Aerobic heart rate is where your body is combining oxygen with fat to get the energy output to keep you going. To find your aerobic heart rate simply subtract your age from 226 for women or 220 for men. This will give you your max heart rate. To keep in the fat burning, washboard abs, range you take that number and multiply it by 55 to 80 percent and that will be the place you want to keep heart rate.

As an example lets say you are a 35 year old male, and want to have your heart rate at about 80 percent of max. simply take 220-35=185. Now 185 is your max heart rate. You should never go above that rate. Now multiply that by 80% and you get 185 X.8= 148. So you will keep your heart rate at around that level for maximum fat burning.

You will also need to watch your diet. A big problem now is for people to consume to many calories in foods that have no nutritional value, soda is a big problem. If you go to the movie and have a 32 ounce soda that is about 481 calories and to maintain your weight the average person should have around 2000 calories per day. That soda is 25 percent of all the calories you should have for the day. Big trouble, that will be a sure way to hide those washboard abs forever! And bigger trouble now since many places give free refills on your soda. That can easily run into more than 1000 calories. Try water or unsweetened tea instead.

There is of course more to washboard abs than this. But if you even start here this will put you off to a great start toward the abs that will have people stopping to admire those abs!
